Turning our Backs on God

This command I gave, "obey my voice, and I will be your God, and you shall be my people; and walk only in the way that I command you, so that it may be well with you."  Yet they did not obey or incline their ear, but, in the stubbornness of their evil will, they walked in their own counsels, and looked backward rather than forward. - Jeremiah 7:23-24

Although we want to follow God's ways, there are times when we turn our backs on God by treating one another disrespectfully, talking about others behind their backs, taking something that doesn't belong to us or in some other way dong harm to another person.  When we end up deciding that we just cant be bothered with following God's ways and God's laws right now, then, as the prophet Jeremiah says, we have "stiffened our necks" and turned our backs on God.

How can we follow God more faithfully?

God, help us to know when we have turned away from you and lead us back to you.  Amen.
