Lent Devotion

Love in a New Life
by: Deanna Molsbee

Scripture: (NRSV) I Corinthians 13:13: And now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; and the greatest of these is love.

Devotion:While it will sound strange to many, watching my husband die 12 years ago was one of the most beautiful experiences of my life.

Wade was a man of great faith who loved God and Martin UMC with his whole heart. He was always giving of his gifts, talents, time; and I was angry that God was taking away the “good” half of our pairing.

However, as the end grew closer and Wade was in and out of his earthly life and visiting his heavenly life…he began to talk to people who weren’t there; so I knew angels were waiting. He began to sing and clap his hands and he became extremely happy. On his second to last day on earth Wade started holding his hands up in the air and saying, “Hurry, hurry…come get me.., take me.”

Wade was leaving us a wonderful legacy of faith and going into his new life, a life that was indeed a testament to his faith and hope. But the love on his face as he hurried toward his new life showed me that the greatest of these was indeed love.

Prayer: Father, please let me lead a life that encourages others to believe in faith and hope and above all…love.
