Ready to Really Listen
"Then, father, I beg you to send him to my father's house - for I have five brothers - that he may warn them, so that they will not also come into this place of torment." he said to him, "If they do not listen to Moses and the prophets, neither will they be convinced even if someone rises from the dead." - Luke 16:27-28,31
The rich man in Jesus' story had the opportunity during his lifetime to help Lazarus, the poor man who was lying at his door. But he didn't help him. The problem was that the rich man hadn't really listened to the Word of God and taken it to heart. Really listening to the Word of God means acting on what you hear. And that means sharing with the needy. Abraham tells the rich man that if their hearts are closed to God's Word, people will not listen even to one who came back from the dead.
God, help us to listen to your Word and to act on it.
