Lent Devotion

Open to God's Spirit

The angel said to Mary,  "the Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore the child to be born will be holy; he will be called Son of God...."  Then Mary said, "Here am I, the servant of the Lord; let it be with me according to your word."
Luke 1:35, 38

Although we will never be asked to give birth to the Son of God as Mary was, we are asked in many ways to trust the Spirit of God at work in our lives.  Trusting God might mean putting up with an injury or illness we would not have chosen for ourselves.  Trusting might be hard when we are having difficulties with friends or when work or school feels overwhelming.  But, like Mary, we are asked to trust that the Spirit of God is at work in ways that we may not be able to see or imagine.  And, like Mary, we need to be able to say, "Let it be with me according to your world."  That way, God can work through us and in us, day in and day out.

God, help us to trust you at work in our lives.
